Black Bear Season Preview 2025
If you ask an experienced Saskatchewan Black Bear Outfitter what get’s him excited about the 2025 spring season, you will get answers like these from Greg Hamm of Bone Quest Outfitters.
Our first check was today. This year has been cool at night with things greening up slower than usual. I checked 6 baits today, 3 were hit, 2 with multiple bears and one big shooter thus far.
What excites me most about Spring Bear season is the excitement of the unknown. You just never know what giant bear will show up at any time for the ladies.
This season we have 13 hunters and are running 17 baits. Most people would say that is too many baits but we like the options in search of big bears as well as having fresh untouched stands for our hunters.
March 1st we snowmobiled into the swamp country loading the 4 baits over a 7 mile stretch with goodies.
The bear season preparation starts long before the first hunters, usually 2 months before the first group.
We have loaded up on the assortment of treats for our bait collection. So far 36 beavers in the freezers ready to go and more coming in daily now as we have a small milk run of traps set collecting the premium as well as 350 lbs of popcorn, 5000 lbs of candy, oats a plenty and roughly 250 gallons of used canola oil ready to go.
